About Me
Alex Truong, photography enthusiast.
Born in the summer of '99 in Vancouver, Alex Truong was born with an interest for visual arts; especially photography, since the beginning. Living nomadically for the majority of her life, it was not difficult for Alex to enjoy the expressive cultures and alluring scenes of nature that constantly surrounded her. With a clunky One-600 polaroid camera, Alex was determined to capture these beautiful landscapes and sceneries in front of her. To this day, she still enjoys taking nature and landscape photos the most. Recently, Alex's passion for photography truly proliferated, even though she has only taken one Photography 10 course, and currently completing one Photography 20 course. Presently, Alex plans to further herself by trying to persue a degree in Business following high school. Additionally, Alex plans to continue with photography as a side hobby, and will always be a fan of photography.
Purpose.
The purpose of this site is to showcase Alex's amateur photography skills, and display the photography knowledge she has learnt over the past semester. This website is for Photography 20, Ms. Suwala, January 20, 2017.

This magazine spread showcases various aspects of not only photography, but digital design as well. The primary colours included in this photograph are blue, red, and yellow. I also used a large circle as the center focus point; within that, there are also small square shapes that are made up of hoop string. This picture has more positive space than negative, because it is a magazine spread, therefore it is trying to capture your attention. This piece also has more high values compared to low values, because the font colours and the background are all bright or neon like. My main element of arts which I used are Pattern, Contrast, Emphasis, and Movement. I used the movement of the hoop strings as part of an emphasis on pattern, and the contrasting colours add to the overall picture. I created balance by using symmetrical shapes, such as the circle of the hoop in the middle. I believe the basketball hoop really symbolizes sports, specifically basketball, since this is a sports magazine. To add, I think the mood depicted in this picture is exciting and energetic, because of the contrast and the bright values. I also think that although there are many colours and different attention grabbers in this piece, it still looks somewhat simplistic and unified.
In this photograph, I used light orange and violet as my main colours. This photograph uses the rule of thirds to enhance the focus and the colours. I also used a dominant cylinder piece to fill my positive space, while my negative space was violet. The element of art in which I used is Contrast for the colours. I also set my aperature at a point where I could achieve a definitve depth of field in my photograph; which separates the focus point from the background. The mood in this photograph is very solemn, and calming, because of the low values and the low contrasting colours. |
This photograph uses only 2 shades of colour; black and white. I used the rule of thirds, shape, and contrast to create this photograph. The geometric shape which is evident in this picture are circles. There is also a line that is found within the clock, which is the 3 clock hands that are pointing towards a specific spot in the clock. I emphasized the contrast in these photos by using contrasting colours, as well as shapes. From circles, to lines, to the rectangular outline of the photo. The mood of this photo is very neutral and mysterious.
This photograph is depicting a very unified and balanced positive and negative space. The colours of these photos are not contrasting, but rather harmonzing, and the light values ratio compared to the dark values creates an interesting photo. The element of art present in this photo is unity. Unity from the space, value, shapes, and colours. The mood of this photo is very relaxing and eccentric. I believe this photo is unique because of the balance between colours and the couds create a neat form of fluffy texture. |
This photograph has a very intense aura because of the dark values in the sky, and the shapes within the photo. The colours that are most dominant are the red from the bridge sidewalk, and the gray from the bridge. The clouds are gloomy and gray, representing the hardship and difficult of living in 2nd and 3rd world countries, in this case, Vietnam. The elements of art are texture, and movement. The clouds and the sidewalk bar have a nice texture, as well as the ground. The woman is the positive space, and the bridge and background are the negative space.

This piece, taken in Victoria, British Columbia, is the official Legislature of BC. This picture is has contrasting colours, such as the primary colour green, and blue hue of the sky; it also has the turquoise at the top of the building. The mood is very peaceful, and the atmosphere is very quiet and undisturbed. This monument is has many elements of art; one is the texture. The texture from the sky, from its many different shades of blue, and from the building, the harsh lines, geometric shapes, and pieces within the architecture, gives it a really antique and unique feel/texture. This picture also represents unity, from all three elements of the earth coming together. From the sky, to the enormous building, all the way down to the neatly cut grass. Finally, this picture puts emphasis on the centre positive space, which is the Legislature.
In this piece, which was taken in Vietnam, the central focus point are the 2 buildings. I am using the rule of thirds in order to emphasize the building, as well as rhythm. I am using rhythm by capturing the trees so that they look like they are rooting randomly around the city. I also used colour and space to create balance. The contrasting blue skies and the dark values of the green from the trees, create balance within the two parts of the picture. As well, I used negative space at the bottom and positive space on the buildings in order to create a balance. The story of this photograph is how nature can so easily intertwine itself and blend itself into the urban areas. |
In this photograph, I created perspective by using light and colours. The lighter values of this picture is closer to the left side, which is closer to the camera, and the darker values closer to the right side, which is farther away from the lens. I used colour by manipulating light so that it seemed that the brighter colours were closer and more vibrant, and the darker colours are farther away. The mood of this photo is gentle and warm, because of the primary colour that is dominating the photo. The element of art in this piece include Pattern, and Texture. The rows of chairs and tables have an emphasis on the pattern of the photograph. The tablecloth, specifically, the one nearest to the camera, has lots of texture to it, which helps create a dynamic photo.
In this DVD cover, the main colours that create a theme for this 'movie' are the primary colours, red and blue. The mood is very dramatic and riveting, and the elements of art that are covered in this piece are Movement, Unity, and Contrast. The rising floods and the smokey flames create movement, that symbolize rush and heat and nature. Unity is created from the 2-in-1 photograph from the front to the back cover, that is just one photo, but are facing entirely different turmoils. Additionally, the contrast in these two natural disasters create a balance in not only the photograph, but in nature as well. The meaning behind this photoshop DVD cover is that it represents the natural forces of life, from matter/energy, space/time, to mind/body. I was inspired by the triad thesis created and formed by the great Greek philosopher Georg Hegel.
In this photograph, the mood is very happy and bright. The plane located in the middle is central focus point, with it being the positive space, and the sky and pavement being the negative space. The elements of art that are included in this piece are Movement, and Texture. The plane is providing the picture with movement, as it is about to take off; the clouds in the brilliant blue sky and the light from the sun create texture within the clouds in the righter part of the photograph. The story behind this photo is that it symbolizes new beginnings, and hopefulness of everyone who positively pushes themselves to get out of their comfort zone in order to try new things, in this case, fly a plane.
